Colon cancer, medically known as colorectal cancer, occurs in the colon or rectum. Although one of the most preventable forms of cancer, it is still the nation's second-leading cause of cancer-related deaths, behind only lung cancer.
This can be changed. Through regular testing, making health lifestyle choices, and proper screening and surveillance, at least 90% of colon cancer cases can be prevented.
The Foundation of the Rotary Club of Mercer Island dedicates a substantial portion of the money raised through our Run Day events to provide ongoing funding of these vital, life-saving efforts.

Apart from our commitment to helping fight the battle against colon cancer, proceeds from Mercer Island Rotary Run Day events are used by the Foundation of the Rotary Club of Mercer Island to support other charitable causes, by helping to fund several non-profit orgnizations operating at the local, regional and international levels, with particular emphasis placed on helping those most in need.
Each year, the Foundation of the Rotary Club of Mercer Island provides over $150,000 to grant recipients at local, regional and international levels.
